Temple Calligraphy and Paintings
In the temples of Macao, there are thousands of boards, couplets, hundreds of frescos, hanging papers or hidden papers, paintings, writings and stone inscriptions.
Among them there is no lack of works of celebrities. The paintings and calligraphy of the temple are the most secular and popular artistic forms and draw a lot of attention to the public.
For example, the inscription of the tablet In Commemoration of the 500th Anniversary of A-Ma Temple on the north wall of Zhenjue Buddhist temple of A-Ma temple, was written by a contemporary calligraphy master Qi Gong; the huge board of the quadrangle pavilion of Na Ti Temple of Shishan was from He Zuyou, member of Imperial Academy of Guangxu Reign; the calligraphy of the central scroll in the “Hau lat Po” Buddhist Dining Hall of Kun lam Temple was the work of Bao Jun, famous calligraphist of the Qing Dynasty.
The stone inscriptions of A-Ma Mountain Mirror of Sea and Tai Yi can still more symbolize Macao.
The paintings and calligraphy of the celebrities after Ming and Qing Dynasties, which are kept in Pu Ji Chan Yuan and A-Ma Temple, are even more like a treasure house waiting for exploration and investigation.
Those celebrities include Gao Jianfu, Guan Shanyue, Xu Beihong, Kang Youwei, Tan Gui, Ji Shan, Qu Dajun, Liang Peilan, Yin Bingshou and others.
