Dr. Sun Yat Sen's Memorial House in Macau was preserved to remember and commemorate the life of Dr. Sun Yat Sen.
He played a major role in the formation of the Republic of China and his works and power will be in all the Chinese history books forever.
First, let me introduce you to the "man of the house," strictly speaking.
Most often referred to as the "Father of Modern China," Sun Yat Sen was a Chinese revolutionary and political leader. He played an instrumental and leadership role in the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty in 1912.
Sun Yat Sen was the mentor and driving force of the Chinese republican revolution which overthrew the weak reign of the Qing Dynasty. And he was the first provisional president when the Republic of China was founded in 1912.
Dr. Sun Yat Sen was a uniting figure in post-imperial China, after the regime of the Qing Dynasty. He remains unique among 20th-century Chinese politicians for being widely revered and remembered in both mainland China and Taiwan.
In addition, on both sides of the Straits he is frequently seen as the father to republican China.
In Taiwan, he is known by the title officially given to him in the Republic of China, Father of the Nation.
On the mainland, Sun is also seen as a Chinese nationalist, the "Forerunner of the Revolution" and "the Father of Modern China".
Dr. Sun Yat Sen's Memorial House is the original building in the architectonic patrimony of Macau. It houses several kinds of documents that pay homage and give reverence to the stay of Dr. Sun Yat Sen in Macau.
This Memorial House is a witness to Dr. Sun Yat Sen's short but indeed very significant stay in Macau. He stayed in Macau in the beginning of the century when he tried to move his supporters in order to establish a new regime in China, while fleeing the power of the imperial mandarins.
When he came to Macau, he was given support by some friends, who were, at that time, the important and powerful persons in the social and political world of Macau.
Since there is no entrance fee to Dr. Sun Yat Sen's Memorial House, exploring around the house isn't much of a great experience.
The Memorial House is typical of what a house that is owned by a Chinese politician would look like during those times.
However, Dr. Sun Yat Sen's Memorial House is special because of the history of Sun Yat Sen himself.
