The outer harbour area is one of the youngest part of Macau. In recent years Macau has almost doubled in size, with new districts being created by land reclamation. One of them now occupies part of the Outer Harbour, where once seaplanes and ferries arrived

You can begin right from the Macau Ferry Terminal. From the arrival area, exit the building towards the left, get on the escalator towards the pedestrian bridge.

You can take a look inside the Oceanus Casino, one of the latest products of Stanley Ho's SJM.

Or you can go down the left stairs and proceed to the Fishermans Wharf. This is a kind of theme park with childrens rides, restaurants, shops, exhibition area and of course what else but the Babylonian Casino. Take a peek inside to see the babylonian design.

Across the casino is the boutique Rocks Hotel.

Cross the street to go to the Sand Casino.

Right next is the Handover Gifts Museum of Macau. The location of the Museum is also the area that was used for the Handover Ceremony on 20th December 1999 in which Macau was returned to the Mainland.

Follow the Avenida Dr Sun Yat Sen along the waterfront, to the Kun Iam Statue and the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre (rising from a small promontory, the 20-metre bronze figure of the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy was sculpted by a Portuguese and cast in China. In the lotus-shaped base is a small ecumenical centre for meditation and information on religions in China.

Across the Kun Iam Statue is a row of bars and restaurants. This area is known as the Docks and is one of the favourite nightlife spots of the City. There are several live bands here. There are also several good restaurants in the area.

Leading from the statue, the broad avenue is devoted to the Dr Carlos D'Assumpção Park (with children's playgrounds and tree-shaded relaxation areas). Stroll through the park to the main Avenida de Amizade and turn left for the Jardim das Artes (a park with brightly coloured geometric sculptures)

Cross the avenue by subway to Comendador Ho Yin Garden (more or less an extension of the Ho Yin Garden).

Take the right exit on Rua de Luís Gonzaga Gomes and follow it to the Tourism Activities Centre which is next to the Macau Forum. Here you find the Grand Prix Museum. Check out the real Formula 3 cars, grandprix motorbikes, videos, memorabilia and interactive race simulators.

Beside the Centre is the Macau Forum which is use for exhibitions, games and conventions.

Across the Forum is the building of the Chinese Foreign Affairs Office. This is where you get your visa to China.

If you walk southwest towards Lan Kwai Fong Hotel, you will find several Chinese and Western restaurants. You can try them or take a bus or taxi back into the Leal Senado area.
