Macau Macau Sights and Attractions
Neighborhoods, Districts and Islands
The 25 square kilometer of Macau has seen frenetic growth in the past few years. Today's expansion is fast exanding into and making the two islands to the south, Taipa and Coloane, one bigger island.
The new Taipa and Coloane is one bigger island, called Cotai. Cotai is being planned to be the "Cotai Strip" in deference to its older brother "Las Vegas Strip". See the plans of Sands Macau, Galaxy and Wynn Resorts.
Today, Macau Peninsula is around 8.5 sq. km., Taipa island 6.2 sq. km., and Coloane Island 7.6 sq. km. Cotai will eventually cover 4.5 sq. km.
Macau Macau Peninsula
The Macau peninsula is traditionally divided according to the historical Concelho de Macau, which divides the peninsula into five regions, nominally parishes, with no authority. You will notice this division if you check the weather of Macau in the internet or in your smartphones.
