Temple of Kwan Tai and Tin Hau of Taipa
The Temple of Kwan Tai and Tin Hau of Taipa is the only conjoined temple of the islands, which is two temple are connected. It is said that it was built in early Qing Dynasty, but the lethal weapons kept in the temple were part of cultural relics in Daoguang Reign of the middle age of the Qing Dynasty or much later. There are altogether two gods worshipped in the temple, namely Tin Hau and Kwan Tai.
The temple of Kuan Tai and Tin Hau was originally called Palace of Tin Hau. The Palace of Kuan Tai was its side palace. The Palace of Kwan Tai gained fame later, where people used to call the temple as Temple of Kuan Tai.
The couplet on the door of the Palace of Tin Hau is "The benevolence navigates in the sea, and glowing rays give more sunshine". And the couplet on the door of the Palace of Mou Tai is "The loyalty is evident and obvious as sun and moon, and the cardinal principals of righteousness are manifested in spring and autumn."
The earliest existent cultural relics in the temple are two pairs of the couplets of the 17th year of Daoguang Reign hung beside the shrines:
With great magic power the sacred empress can fill and high up Yuehai,
despite of thousand of miles of storms;
Yuanjun has the most inspiration and it lasts for centuries
The fame spreads in Huayi and the general is entitled with name of Ancient Emperor.
The temple can be compared to Zhushui and Sishui,
and the sacred man can be called leader of hundreds of centuries.
