Kun Iam Temple of Taipa
The Small Kun Iam Temple of Taipa
It is said in the couplet of the front door of the Small Temple of Kun Iam: "The blessed rock sees the liberty and the sacred rain proves the existence of Buddha."
The Small Kun Iam Temple of Taipa is one of small temples of Taipa, without a long history of construction. Built in the 10th year of Tongzhi Reign (in 1871), it was later rebuilt after damaged by typhoon in the 13th year.
The inscriptions on the tablet on the temple recorded the origin of the temple and the event of reconstruction: "In the unplanted place full of rocks everywhere, only a new building with solemn palaces was visible, where the waves were calm in broad range and returned from the firm stones … in the Mid-Autumn of the year Jia Xu, the typhoon overthrew trees …", it was rebuilt two years later.
The Small Temple of Kun lam is a temple with a special origin. It is said that is after the epiphany of Kun lam in cave that the believers put the idol of Kun lam in the cave. After receiving a large number of pilgrims, the temple is built naming Kum lam. Until today the idol of Kun lam is still in the cave.
